The Grassmarket Unplugged series is a project started in March 2016. After working with the Greater Grassmarket BID, as part of their outdoor events programme, the project has grown to work with numerous brands, including Oxjam, Red Dog Music and the Academy of Music & Sound.
Over the last two years, 150 acts have played the stage to showcase their talents and also raise money for charity. From May – September 2017 14 events took place including two with Oxjam, one with the Academy of Music & Sound and Red Dog Music.
“We worked with Flowstate on a series of pop-up outdoor gigs with Oxjam Edinburgh Takeover and Greater Grassmarket. They were flexible, timely, and committed, and all with an amicableness that makes them fun to work with too.” – Oxjam
Through The Wire Music LLP is a music promotions company based in Edinburgh. They offer young people hands-on experience in the live music industry and work with upcoming local musicians as well as touring acts.
“Volunteering for Through The Wire Music has provided me with invaluable experience in music journalism. As I haven’t studied music as further education, I have had difficulty in being able to pursue a career in the music industry, however, through volunteering I have been able to network and gain contacts within this industry which in turn has furthered my career and opened up many options for me in this field.”
Many of the volunteers have successfully gained employment in the music industry as a result of being involved with the project.
“Through The Wire has allowed me to reach a much broader readership and at the same time bring so much exciting music to that same readership. This has ranged from local events and bands to more established artists and across a range of venues. I’ve accumulated a portfolio of live reviews that has helped build my credibility as a genuine reviewer and literally opened doors. And so it continues…”
Flow State continues to project manage Through The Wire Music and is expanding on their monthly live shows taking place throughout the UK and Europe.
